Thermal spraying of Yankee dryers and other cylinders

Thermal spraying of Yankee dryers and other cylinders

If repeated grinding has resulted in the casing becoming too thin, we apply a hard and corrosion-resistant wear layer by using thermal spraying which then permits repeated grinding.

With the help of thermal spraying – flame, arc or plasma spraying – we can on many occasions considerably increase the lifetime of rolls that are subjected to wear or corrosion.

The illustration shows a Yankee dryer being sprayed in situ on customer premises.

  • 1 Thermal spraying of damaged edges.
  • 2 Partial repair including plugging of pores and damaged casing.
  • 3 Turning, belt grinding and super-finishing of plain or crown rolls.
  • 4 Thermal spraying of casing – for longer lifetime and resistance to corrosion.
  • 5 Metalock repairs of cracks in end units after permits have been granted and under supervision of inspecting authority.
  • 6 Milling of, for example, keyway, planing of bearing support, etc.
  • 7 Thermal spraying, lathing and grinding of damaged journals (can also be carried out with dryer stationary).
  • 8 Sealing of steam leakage, for example in bolted joints.
  • 9 Turning of sealing surfaces for manholes.
  • 10 Hydraulic pre-stressed bolted joints for tightening, for example of bearing brackets, couplings, etc.
